The quote that goes out before your competitor’s

On building work it is not always the cheapest who wins: it is often the first to answer. How an automated quote on your site prices the job while the customer is still reading, and what that changes.

Whoever answers first

Someone who wants their bathroom redone does not ask for one quote. They ask three or four, the same evening, from four different firms. Then they wait.

The first to answer holds a real advantage: they become the reference point everyone else is measured against. The later bids are no longer judged on their quality but on the gap with that first number.

The trouble is that a quote gets written in the evening, after the job. You dig out the rates, work out the surfaces, format it, proofread it. Thirty to forty-five minutes, once the day is already done. So it goes out tomorrow. Or the day after.

What an automated quote does

The visitor describes the job on your site: type of work, surface, options, current condition. They get a range calculated on your own rates, which you entered and can change whenever you want.

And you receive the enquiry already priced, with all the details, on your phone.

Three things matter here:

  • These are YOUR prices. Not a market estimate, not an average. Your rates, your coefficients.
  • It is a range, and it says so. The real quote comes after the site visit. This number opens the conversation, it does not commit you.
  • Even a visitor who gives up halfway is recorded. You can call them back — and those are often the most interesting, because they were hesitating.

The money

It does not come from charging more. It comes from enquiries you would never have seen. Someone filling in a form at 10 pm was not going to call you the next morning: they were going to call somebody else.

It also works the other way round: out-of-budget enquiries filter themselves out. Someone who sees the range and stops there has just saved you a trip and a free site visit.

The time

Preparing the quote drops from thirty to forty-five minutes to a few seconds, and it happens while the customer is still on screen, not in your evening at home.

Add the invoicing that comes with it: PDF with your logo, automatic numbering, email delivery, electronic signature. That is a lot of evenings not spent on paperwork.

The real calculation

Take your average job value. Count how many jobs you lose for answering too late — you know which ones. A single job won back pays for the tool for years at €15/month. That calculation you can redo with your own numbers, and it is the only one that matters.

Automated quoting is one of the tools that turn a brochure site into a quoting machine, alongside the booking calendar, visitor tracking and the content editor.
